Getting started

  1. First things first

Before you can start using Timy:

    • You need a Basecamp Plus account.
The Basecamp Free or Basic accounts do not feature time-tracking.
    • Basecamp API access must be enabled.
To do so, sign in to the Basecamp website and navigate to the “Account” tab. Scroll down to find the Basecamp API section and enable the Basecamp API.
    • Make sure you have time tracking enabled for to-do items.
    • If you are using the desktop version, Adobe AIR must be installed on your computer.
  2. Log in to Timy

Timy will ask you for your Basecamp username, your Basecamp password, and your Basecamp url.
Your Basecamp url should look like “yourcompanyname.projectpath.com“. Make sure not to include http:// or https:// here.

  3. Setting up the desktop version

Using the desktop version is pretty simple, just follow these 3 steps:

    • After your first log in, Timy will synchronize itself with Basecamp. Sit back and relax.
    • On the preferences screen, enable the projects for which you want to track time. Your enabled projects are now listed in the “Projects“ pane.
    • Go “Back to week“ and start dragging and dropping projects from the “Projects“ pane to the “Week“ pane.
  4. Setting up a project

    • Sign in to the Basecamp website
    • If you do not have a project yet, create one by clicking on “Create a new project“.
Give your project a name and click on “Create this project“.

You are now set up to track time on your project.

  5. Tracking time on to-do items

Timy allows you to track time on to-do items. To enable this, just follow these steps:

    • Sign in to the Basecamp website
    • Pick the project for which you want to track time on to-do items.
    • On the project page, navigate to the “To-dos“ tab and create a new to-do list. Make sure to check the “Allow us to track time spent on this to-do list“ option.
    • If you already have a to-do list you want to track time on, you can edit it and enable the “Allow us to track time spent on this to-do list“ option.
